Dhanteras Puja

Dhanteras is a Hindu festival which is celebrated on the very first day of the five-day Diwali celebration. The Dhanteras Puja is related to the health, wealth and prosperity and different deities are worshiped in different Indian regions on this auspicious day. Some people worship Lord Yama, the Death God, to receive a long life and prosperity in the home. At many places, Goddess Bhagawati is worshiped on this day. Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kuber & Lord Dhanvantri are also worshiped on the same day. The special day is celebrated every thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month as per the Hindu calendar. On this day, people lit lamps outside and inside their houses to welcome the Dhan-Laksmi. People usually indulge themselves in shopping this day. Gold, jewelry, electronic equipment, shares, bonds and other stuff are purchased this day.
